Report Launch: Equally Well

Our national review of the eight Equally Well Test Sites to tackle health inequalities across Scotland is now complete.  Our final report explored the extent to which service re-design had taken place in the Test Site areas.

We found that:

  • The Test Sites - as would be expected - are at a relatively early stage of in their journey towards reducing health inequalities.
  • All the Test Sites have made some progress in relation to service redesign.
  • In a small number of cases, service redesign has become embedded in the work of organisations and a systematic and mainstream approach is emerging.
  • For most, the service redesign to date has been specific to particular approaches and has not yet transformed the way organisations go about their business.
  • For the future, ongoing effective joint working will be needed - and a clear priority for investment in prevention and tackling the underlying causes of health inequalities.

We are running a series of discussion groups across Scotland during August and September 2011.  The work will inform Audit Scotland's wider review of the strategic commissioning of social care services.

The final report will be available in early 2012.
